Mumbai Police arrested the chief executive officer and chief administrative officer of the Virar hospital where 15 Covid patients dies after a fire broke out in the ICU on Friday.
Both of them have been booked under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337, 338 (causing hurt by act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life) and 34 (common intention).
The nurses, ward boys and doctor on duty night when the incident took place are being questioned, said the police officer. They too are named in the FIR. A nurse told the police that as per protocol, they had called Dr Dilip Shah (CEO) and Dr Shailesh Pathak (CAO) after noticing sparks in the AC unit of the ICU. It was Dr Shah and Dr Pathak who called the fire brigade, said police, adding that allegations of the fire brigade being informed of the blaze after a 15-minute delay is being investigated.
