India to soon exceed 200 million COVID-19 vaccine target: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that India is on the verge of administering 200 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses, and that the prophylactic dosage is being provided quickly across the country.

“We need to be cautious with Corona. However, it is a source of pride that the country now possesses a full protective barrier in the form of a vaccine. We are almost to 200 crore vaccination doses. In addition, the precaution dosage is being swiftly provided throughout the country.

If a cautionary dosage is required after your second treatment, you must take this third dose. Make sure your family members, especially the elderly, get a prophylactic dosage,” he stated on the 90th episode of the monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ During the rainy season, the Prime Minister also recommended people to take appropriate measures such as hand hygiene and masks, and to be aware of illnesses caused by the surrounding pollution.

The immunisation campaign has been stepped up with the availability of additional vaccinations, advance awareness of vaccine availability to states and UTs for improved planning, and simplification of the vaccine supply chain.

As part of the statewide immunisation campaign, the Government of India has been supplying free COVID vaccines to states and union territories.

However, as of 7 a.m. today, India’s COVID-19 immunisation coverage had surpassed 197.08 Cr (1,97,08,51,580).

This was accomplished through 2,55,80,569 sessions.

COVID-19 immunisation for children aged 12 to 14 years old began on March 16, 2022. More than 3.63 Cr (3,63,09,335) teenagers have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination thus far.

Similarly, COVID-19 cautionary dosage administration for the age range 18-59 years began on April 10, 2022.

So far, 4,40,50,105 cautionary doses have been delivered to those above the age of 60, 23,51,974 doses to people between the ages of 45 and 59, and 25,38,431 doses to people between the ages of 18 and 44.

Meanwhile, India recorded 11,739 new cases in the previous 24 hours on Sunday, bringing the country’s active caseload to 92,576.

Active cases now account for 0.21 percent of all Positive cases in the country.

Earlier on Thursday, in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya convened a video conference meeting with Health Ministers and senior officials from States and Union Territories (UTs) to review the progress of the vaccination campaign HarGharDastak 2.0.

Mandaviya added that expanded and timely testing will enable early detection of COVID patients and assist to prevent the spread of the illness among the population, citing higher case positive in various districts and States and lower COVID-19 testing.

He had asked states and universities to maintain and expand monitoring while focusing on genome sequencing to find novel mutants/variants in the country.

He added that States/UTs must maintain and monitor the five-pronged strategy of Test, Track, Treat, Vaccination, and Adherence to Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB).
