The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to Central Council of Indian Medicine on a petition filed by Indian Medical Association (IMA) challenging a recent decision by the government on allowing Ayurveda doctor to conduct 58 types of surgical procedures. The notification by the CCIM has listed 39 types of general surgeries and 19 procedures involving the eye , ear , nose and throat by amending the Indian Medicine Central Council (Post Graduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations,2016.
A bench comprising Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian issued notices to the Ministry of Ayush, CCIM and National Medical Commission while seeking their replies on the petition.
According to the November 20,2020 gazette notification the procedures listed that includes removal of metallic and non- metallic foreign bodies from non-vital organs, traumatic wound management etc.
