According to the authorities, the accused, Dr. Ajay Mate, performed a limb operation in which the decaying section of the leg from the knee down was removed. Sunita Jadhav, a nurse, was instructed to dispose of it. Following the doctor’s orders, the nurse threw the limb in a public garbage can, which was subsequently discovered by some concerned residents, who notified the police.
Police inspector Vikas Jadhav, the investigating officer, said that it was a case of negligence and unscientific disposal of a human leg which should have been done as per the medical protocol. “Since there was a violation, we have lodged a case and investigation is on in the case. The incident took place on September 22 ,” he said.
