MANILA, Nov 17 (Reuters) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a state of emergency in the The Philippines has approved the emergency use of a COVID-19 vaccine by Novavax Inc (NVAX.O), its food and drug administration chairman said on Wednesday, making it the Southeast Asian country’s eighth vaccine approval.
The nanoparticle vaccine, known as Covovax, will be developed by Serum Institute of India and is licenced for use on individuals 18 and older, according to the agency’s chief Rolando Enrique Domingo during a press conference.
Covovax, which had efficacy of 89.7% in clinical trials, will be administered in two doses not less than 21 days apart, Domingo added.
The Philippines has inoculated more than a quarter of its 110 million population.
