NBE Clarifies On Annual Fee Payment Of Trainees Who Joined DNB Seats Reserved For In-Service Doctors

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has addressed the payment of the yearly fee for the DNB programme in a recent announcement.
This explanation is in response to inquiries received by the NBE about the payment of the Annual Course Fee of NBEMS trainees who have joined the DNB seats allocated for “in-service” Doctors in various NBEMS Accredited Hospitals of the State Government/Armed Forces/Railways/PSU and ESIC.

Therefore, all the concerned NBE Accredited Hospitals of State Government, Armed Forces, Railways, PSU, and ESIC which have conducted counselling for “in-service” candidates for the 2020 Admission Session are hereby informed:

NBEMS trainees who have joined the seats reserved for the “in-service” doctors are not required to pay the Annual Course Fee to NBEMS. Instead, the Annual Course Fee has to be paid to their respective hospitals as per policy and rules as applicable to these hospitals.

Last month, the NBE issued a notification requiring Post MBBS (including Direct 6 years), Post Diploma, Super Speciality, and Fellowship trainees (DNB, DrNB, FNB, and FNB FPIS) to pay their yearly course costs directly to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
Trainees pursuing different DNB/DrNB/FNB/FNBFPIS (including Direct 6 Years Courses) will be required to pay the yearly course cost directly to NBE, according to the announcement.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences was established in 1975 with the prime objective of improving the quality of Medical Education by elevating the level and establishing standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine on an all-India basis. There are more than 149 recognized Medical Colleges in the country. In addition to Postgraduate teaching institutions under erstwhile MCI, there are 450 accredited institutions imparting training in various Broad and Super specialties for the award of a postgraduate qualification in Broad and super specialties. The Board at present conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in 54 disciplines approved by the Board for the award of Diplomate of National Board. The Medical Council of India has laid down standards for postgraduate examinations conducted by various medical colleges and affiliated to concerned universities and other institutions, yet the levels of proficiency and standards of evaluation vary considerably in these institutions. The setting up of a National Body to conduct postgraduate medical examination was intended to provide a common standard and mechanism of evaluation of the minimum level of attainment of the objective for which post-graduate courses were started in medical institutions. Moreover, intra country and international comparisons are facilitated with the availability of commonly accepted evaluation mechanisms.
