In the last eight years, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has achieved amazing development, and Janaushadhi Kendra has become the country’s pharmaceutical shop for the poor, said Union Minister for Health, Chemicals and Fertilizers Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told ANI that the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana’s 8,809 Janaushadhi outlets provide excellent and inexpensive medications to all citizens. The number of Janaushadhi Kendras has more than tripled in the previous eight years.
“In 2014, there were roughly 80 Janaushdhi Kendras in various regions of the nation, and by 2022, there would be more than 8,800, which is a 100-fold growth,” Mansukh Mandaviya said.
On the condition of anonymity, an official from the Chemical and Fertilizer Ministry told ANI that the daily sale of Janaushdhi Kendra is Rs 4 crores, and the average daily beneficiary is more than 4.5 lakh people, and the monthly sale of Janaushdhi Kendra is more than Rs 100cr, and the yearly sale was Rs 893 crores in 2021-22, with a target of Rs 1,200 crores for 2022-23.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was started in November 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, with the goal of making quality generic medications affordable to everybody.
The plan establishes specialised stores called as Janaushadhi Kendras to supply generic medications at low costs. Currently, around 8,800 Janaushadhi Kendras are operational across the country. PMBJP’s product line includes of 1,616 medications and 240 surgical devices.
