It is important to note that there are now more health concerns in the nation as Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization Soumya Swaminathan stated on Friday that there are over 300 sub-variants of viruses and that XBB, a recombinant virus, is of particular concern because it is immune evasive.
A recent spike was seen in the fast-spreading variation XBB, which is a recombinant lineage between the Omicron sublineages BJ.1 and BA.2.75. Following a high-level conference last week with senior health officials to discuss the development of new subvariants of Omicron, the decision was made to continue mask use and COVID-appropriate behaviour nationwide.
