The Centre notified the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it has solicited bids to create a portal that would give real-time information on mental health institutions down to the district level.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud directed the Centre to produce an affidavit detailing the portal’s implementation. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Madhavi Divan informed the court about a dashboard that they want to install on the site to provide real-time information on mental health services.
The attorney further informed the court that all state governments have been summoned to a demonstration within 15 days, and that the site will be operational within a month.
The court was considering a petition for rehabilitation of the mentally ill who were being held in hospitals or mental asylums. Gaurav Kumar Bansal, a lawyer, filed the petition.
The Supreme Court had previously asked the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to develop and distribute a model version of its online dashboard to all States/Union Territories.
