Do you know intense hairfall can be caused by oiling

As a traditional remedy for better hair health, many individuals have utilised hair oiling. However, the technique and the oil are crucial for maintaining healthy hair but oiling may promote the development of Malassezia, which results in dandruff and can irritate the scalp and cause hairfall. We’ve been taught for years that oiling is a granny’s all-in-one remedy for hair loss and greying. However, this is untrue since oil’s molecular weight prevents it from penetrating the scalp and because it has no effect on hair growth or the condition of the scalp.

Oiling may promote the development of Malassezia, which results in dandruff and can irritate the scalp and cause hairfall. Oiling may also block the hair follicles on the scalp, leading to scalp acne and alopecia with scars.

Common Hair Oiling errors to avoid in order to minimise Hairfall

1. Ferociously massage

Strenuous oil massages can easily damage hair because they cause friction between the hair strands. A prolonged period of scalp massage might damage or weaken your hair strands. For healthy hair and scalp, a gentle 5 minute scalp massage after oiling is adequate.

2. Don’t sport tight hairstyles

After oiling the hair, the habit of tightly bunning or plaiting it can weaken the roots and result in considerable damage, including hair loss. In the long run, it can also cause traction alopecia. When hair is oiled, it is the most delicate. Your strands may get easily damaged by the pressure of tying it up. It can also result in split ends if you are not careful enough.

3. Using excessive oil

When using oils for the first time, it is preferable to start off using too little and increase your usage gradually than to over-oil your scalp and leave it that way overnight. This implies that you will need to use more shampoo to remove the additional oil, which might remove the natural oils from your hair. It’s crucial to strike a balance that works for you. Persons with dry hair can leave it in overnight, whereas people with oily hair should typically wait 2 to 3 hours. Additionally, keep oil away from damp hair since it might clog your pores.

4. Applying cold oil

Applying heated oil is always preferable since it is more effective and quickly penetrates your hair and scalp. Warm oil promotes healthier hair by increasing blood flow to the scalp. Additionally, it supports and strengthens hair follicles.

5. Storage of oil overnight

When you let your hair soak in oil for more than 12 hours, your scalp’s natural oil and debris mix together. In addition to making your hair oily and cling, oil on your hair will likely attract dust from your pillow and bed. As a result, it may result in hair loss and other issues with the hair.
