Chile will see another surge of COVID-19 infections in the next two weeks, according to a local epidemics monitoring group on Tuesday.
Chile has been witnessing a fifth wave of COVID-19 infections for many weeks, and “we might be nearing the top in two or three weeks,” according to Felipe Elorrieta, head of the Mathematical Epidemiological Group for Epidemic and Pandemic Surveillance at the University of Santiago, Chile. The scientists examined data from the Chilean Ministry of Health, which revealed a 58% spike in COVID-19 cases in the previous 14 days.
“There were 8,500 (daily) instances last week.” We should be above 9,000 but below 10,000 this week, “according to Elorrieta.”
