Robotic surgery is poised to significantly improve healthcare in Northeast India by providing advanced, minimally invasive procedures that enhance patient outcomes and accessibility, particularly in remote areas. This initiative is highlighted by the establishment of centers like the one at Swagat Hospital in Guwahati.
Robotic surgery is set to transform healthcare in Northeast India, providing crucial medical services to remote and underserved areas. This was the consensus among experts at a recent meeting of the editorial board for the ‘International Journal of Advanced Robotic & Innovative Surgery’ (IJARIS), held at the Marriott Convention Center in Shillong.
Currently, Swagat Hospital in Guwahati is the only facility offering robotic surgery in the region. However, experts argue that more such centers are needed to broaden access to advanced surgical techniques. These techniques are not only minimally invasive but also improve patient outcomes by reducing recovery times and the need to travel long distances for specialized treatment.
Dr. Arun Prasad, a Clinical Lead and GI & Bariatric Surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi, highlighted the benefits of robotic surgery. According to Dr. Prasad, the adoption of these advanced procedures can attract skilled healthcare professionals and enhance the overall medical infrastructure of the region.
By establishing more robotic surgery centers, Northeast India could see a significant improvement in healthcare accessibility and quality, bringing it closer to global healthcare standards.
