According to a press statement from Continental Hospitals, Gachibowli, a multidisciplinary team of care providers performed a bypass surgery and a stage three colon cancer operation concurrently to rescue a 58-year-old patient Subhan Ali, a sarpanch from Ayyalur, Kurnool.
Ali was admitted to the hospital with breathing difficulty and sudden loss of consciousness and tests revealed that he had critical blockages of heart blood vessels that affected his heart function. Later, more tests revealed Ali’s colon cancer.
“Colon cancer surgery could not be performed first, prior to the heart bypass surgery because of reduced heart function and high risk of anaesthesia. Further, waiting to undergo cancer surgery after his heart surgery, carried risk of cancer spreading to other organs. Hence, surgeons undertook both heart and colon surgeries simultaneously on August 23. The seven hour surgery was successful and patient has recovered in few days,” doctors said.
Senior Interventional Cardiologist Dr Ashutosh Kumar, CT Surgeon Dr Pradeep K Rachakonda, Surgical Oncologist Dr Ravi Chander, Gastroenterologist Dr Santosh along with Anaesthetist Dr Anil Kumar Reddy conducted the surgeries.
