Depressed medical student commits suicide

A 21-year-old first year MBBS student of Zoram Medical College (ZMC)  was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his hostel room on Wednesday. He was known to be avoiding food and failed in an exam.

No suicide note was found at the scene. The victim was identified as Nazar Chakma, a resident of Chawngte C in south Mizorams Lawngtlai district.

North East Now reports that the results of recent exams were declared on Tuesday and he failed. He was depressed about his bad performance and “The student was avoiding food and was depressed since Tuesday”, his roommate said.

DIG (Northern Range) said that the roommate and the watchman had to break open the door ,rushed the student to the hospital where he was declared dead. The officer added that a post-mortem examination was not conducted at the behest of the victim’s family and the body would be taken to his native village.
