In Maharashtra, two individuals tested positive for Omicron subvariant BA.5, according to the state health authority.
Both patients’ samples were forwarded to NIV in Pune. Both patients are from outside Maharashtra but live in rural Pune for professional reasons. They were discovered COVID-19 positive at the normal screening at Pune airport (July 3-9) while returning from Dubai. They were asymptomatic and healed completely at home.
The total number of BA.4 and BA.5 cases in Maharashtra now stands at 160, according to the health department.
According to the health department, the district numbers for BA.4 and BA.5 are as follows: Pune -93, Mumbai -51, Thane -5, Nagpur, Palghar – 4 each, and Raigad -3.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 2,515 Covid-19 cases and six additional fatalities due to the virus on Friday, bringing the total to 80,29,910 and the death toll to 1,48,051, according to an official.
In the previous 24 hours, the recovery count climbed by 2,449 people.

BA.4 and BA.5 are global subvariants of the Omicron variant. These were originally detected in South Africa early this year and have now spread to numerous other nations. These variations have not been linked to increased illness severity or hospitalisation.
