Wuhan, China, reports one case of cholera

The central Chinese city of Wuhan has recorded one case of cholera, according to local health officials on Monday.

According to the health office of Wuhan’s Wuchang District, the symptoms of the patient at Wuhan University have subsided after appropriate diagnosis and treatment, according to Xinhua news agency. Professional institutions have collected samples, tested them, and monitored people involved in the case. The affected areas have been disinfected, and interim closed management has been implemented.

To yet, no additional cases have been discovered, according to the study.

“There’s no reason to fear,” Yang Zhanqiu, deputy director of Wuhan University’s pathogen biology department, told the Global Times on Monday.

Yang said firmly that cholera in China has been under control since 2000 due to vastly better sanitary conditions and medical treatment, with just occasional instances reported in recent years. Because China can give modern medical care and effective anti-cholera drugs, a cholera epidemic is less likely anymore, according to the virologist.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by consumption of food or water infected with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Cholera is a global public health hazard as well as a sign of injustice and a lack of social development including china.

Cholera is a highly contagious illness that can cause severe acute watery diarrhoechina. After consuming infected food or drink, symptoms might appear anywhere between 12 hours and 5 days later. Cholera affects both children and adults and, if left untreated, can kill within hours.

Most persons infected with V. cholerae show no symptoms, despite the fact that the germs remain in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection and are shed back into the environment, possibly infecting others.
