Chhattisgarh: Man drags his daughter’s body for 10 kilometres, asking health minister to probe deeper

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo has ordered an investigation after a video of a dad carrying his daughter’s body on his shoulders went viral on social media, according to PTI.

“I watched the video,” Deo confessed. “It was upsetting. I have instructed the CMHO [chief medical health officer] to take the necessary measures after the situation has been investigated. I informed him that individuals who are stationed there [at the health centre] but unable to do their tasks should be removed.

The seven-year-old child died on Friday morning at the community health centre in Lakhanpur village, Surguja district. Ishwar Das, of Ambala village, has been identified as the man.

“The girl’s oxygen level was quite low, about 60,” said Dr. Vinod Bhargav, a rural medical assistant stationed at the health centre. “She had had a high temperature for the previous few days, according to her parents.”

Despite the fact that therapy for the girl had begun, Bhargav stated that her health had worsened. She passed away at 7.30 a.m. The girl’s father then requested a hearse to transport her remains back to their village. The Times of India reported on this.

“We informed the family members that a hearse would be arriving shortly,” Bhargav added. “It arrived at about 9.20 a.m., but they had already departed with the corpse.”

Das claims that the girl was given shots on an empty stomach, which might have resulted in a response.

In the footage, he can be seen walking roughly 10 kilometres to get home, according to ANI.

Deo, meanwhile, posted photos of the girl’s father on Twitter, calling them “unfortunate.”

In a Hindi tweet, Deo stated, “It is really unfortunate that this girl died despite being given viable cures.” But, in the meantime, the bereaved family chose to collect the deceased.

Singh agreed that the hospital workers present at the moment should have communicated more effectively with the family.

In another tweet, he said, “The staff present at the health department should have notified the family about the circumstances and expressed condolences through proper communication.”

“Action will be taken against the guilty discovered in this matter,” the minister stated, “and those who are unable to do their duties correctly will be replaced by others.”
