Anaesthesiologist commits suicide in his hostel room at Nair Hospital

A first year student of anaesthesiology was found dead after he allegedly injected himself with an unknown substance in his hostel room on Monday night. The 27-year-old worked with BYL Nair hospital in Mumbai Central.

Police spot a vial of injection which he allegedly injected in both his hands. No other similar evidence or even a suicide note was traced so far.

The deceased was an anaesthetist and was on rounds in the wards of the hospital hostel and returned to his room saying that they can call whenever needed. However, when none of the calls from the hospital were answered by him, a person went to his room and found the door locked from inside. Subsequently the door was broken and the doctor was found unconscious in his hostel room around 10:30 pm on Monday. When rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead post admission.

According to the police the deceased had allegedly injected himself with an unknown substance. “We did not find any suicide note. We searched his hostel room and found his phone but its PIN locked. We will now call an expert to open the phone and examine it.” a police officer told.

As per the recent media reports the deceased’s brother was also a doctor and told that anaesthesiologist had last week visited his ailing father in Aurangabad and returned to Mumbai on Feb 14.

“after coming to the city, he had spoken to his brother as well and was normal,” the officer mentioned.

The victim’s body was sent to Nair hospital for post-mortem and a case of accidental death has been filed at Agripada police station. The body has now been taken to his hometown, Aurangabad by the family of the deceased after it was handed over to them by the police on Tuesday around 10 PM.
