All Assam Medical Service Association called off its strike until November 14th

GUWAHATI: The AMSA (All Assam Medical Service Association) has called off its ongoing strike after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma promised that the government would resolve their outstanding issues within a reasonable time frame. The AMSA’s emergent central office bearers’ meeting on Tuesday unanimously decided to withdraw the ongoing agitation temporarily until November 14 as a goodwill gesture to the government.

Take more vigorous steps of agitation after November 14, subject to approval by the forthcoming general body meeting of rthe organiation. State Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Anurag Goel in a letter to the All Assam Medical Service Association on Monday had assured of daily updates of the progress of work done by the government.

The Association also urged the government to take necessary steps to maintain the dignity of the Health (A) doctors working in the newly established medical colleges of the State like the Lakhimpur Medical College where senior doctors of Health (A) were being allegedly controlled by junior doctors of Health (B).

It also expressed its gratitude to the general members, unit office bearers, IMA (Assam State branch; Assam Dental Service Association; Assam Ayurvedic Doctors Service Association; Ayurvedic Medical Organisation (AMO); Assam Ayurvedic Doctors’ Association (NHM); All Assam Nurses Association (AANA), All Assam ANM & LHS Service Association; the media and well wishers of the aAssociation for their cooperation during the agitation programme. The All Assam Medical Service Association had launched its agitation on October 19 by boycotting OPD service for three hours demanding resolution of various demands. It was followed by a total OPD boycott on October 22, 26, 27 and 28. The Association had planned for another total boycott of OPD from November 1 to 3 before the government intervened.

Among the demands of the AMSA included cadre revision, time-scale promotion for Health (A) doctors; filing up of vacant posts of doctors,; two advance increments to diploma holders of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS); pay for Health (A) doctors at par with the doctors of central government/Doctors of Health (B) and other Northeast States; timely promotions for Health (A) doctors at all levels; increase in PG seats for Health (A) doctors; paying Health (A) doctors for evening OPD service; rent-free quarters for Health (A) doctors and security to all health service providers of Health (A).
