On Tuesday, India’s daily count of coronavirus disease cases fell to a 259-day low, with 10,423 persons testing positive for the virus, bringing the total case count to 34,296,237, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare’s (MoHFW) daily bulletin. The latest cases of new infections are about 17% lower than those reported on Monday, when 12,514 persons tested positive.
More than 15,021 people have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of cases to 33,683,581. The recuperation rate increased to 98.21%, the highest since March of last year, according to a statement from the Union health ministry. However, daily mortality increased to 443, up from 251 on Monday, bringing the total death toll to 458,880, or 1.34 percent of all cases.
Meanwhile, active cases have dropped to 153,776, accounting for just 0.45% of all cases.
On the vaccination front, 5,239,444 more doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered. With this, a total of more than 1.06 billion doses have been administered since the nationwide inoculation drive began on January 16 this year.
