Noble prize in medicine or physiology goes to Three Scientists for discovery of Hepatitis C virus American Harvey J Alter and Charles M Rice, and British scientist Michael Houghton.
“For the first time in history, the disease can now be cured, raised hopes of eradicating hepatitis C virus from the world population,” said the Noble assembly statement.
The head of the Nobel Committee, Thomas Perlmann, announced the winners in Stockholm.
Hepatitis C is a blood born virus part of a group of hepatitis viruses that attack the liver. It’s mainly passed through contaminated needles either injecting or injuries from the needle.
